General English

A comprehensive conversation course designed to help adult learners use English confidently in daily life and at work. The main coursebook is Oxford's globally trusted English File — not grammar for its own sake, but the expressions you actually use in daily life, business and travel.

How MEC Teaches · 1:1 + Group Combined

Every MEC course combines 1:1 and group lessons. Absorbing in 1:1 what you first met in a group is MEC's core difference.

Group lessons

Real interaction and speaking practice with peers at the same level.

1:1 lessons

Targeted work on personal weak points, with pace and progression tuned to you.

Expressions picked up in the group are corrected and internalised 1:1 — this hand-off is what actually gets learners speaking.

Accurate placement via the Oxford Online Placement Test (OOPT), with progress reviewed every 4 weeks.

CLASS TYPES

4 group periods fixed · 1–4 one-to-one periods

Add 1-to-1 periods to raise the intensity

Four class types — every type shares the same four group periods, and the number of 1-to-1 periods is what sets the intensity.

BASIC

Standard

Group4+ 1:11

The standard build for learners starting out. You settle into the group rhythm while securing a baseline of speaking time.

PLUS

Enhanced

Group4+ 1:12

An enhanced build that raises your speaking volume. Twice a day you get correction time devoted to you alone.

INTENSIVE I

Intensive

Group4+ 1:13

The focused build for learners who need results in a short time. Close to half the day is one-to-one.

INTENSIVE II

Maximum

Group4+ 1:14

The most one-to-one, the fastest change. Group and 1-to-1 balance out across eight periods a day.

The larger the 1-to-1 share, the more personalised the intensity. The clearer your goal — or the shorter your timeline — the more we recommend Intensive. Whichever type you choose, the interaction of the four group periods stays intact.

Who it's for

Beginners building from the basics, working professionals and university students who want fast conversational fluency, and any learner aged 18+ planning a longer stay.

What you'll achieve

In groups you practise the conversations and role-plays from each English File unit; in 1:1 lessons your pronunciation, weak expressions and work context are closely corrected. This combined structure is what genuinely gets adult learners speaking.

Program Focus

  • Main coursebook: Oxford English File (A1–C1, the matching level per band)
  • Practical conversation you use straight away — daily life, business, travel
  • Group conversation & role-play combined with 1:1 pronunciation and expression coaching
  • Pronunciation clinics and built-in repeated exposure turn learned phrases into speech

Actual timetables adjust to your programme; 1:1 lessons are scheduled as Basic ×1, Plus ×2, Intensive ×3–4. Fridays run the same full day as Monday to Thursday.
