What Makes MEC Special?

Johor Bahru's Premier Language School

State-of-the-art campus, qualified instructors, and Philippine-style 1:1 intensive classes. A uniquely differentiated English education experience.

1

1:1 Individual Intensive Classes

Real-world speaking practice with an instructor one-on-one—not in a group. Each student's strengths and weaknesses are assessed and a personalised study plan is created. 25–40 lessons per week depending on the course type.

2

Two Campus Options

Choose the campus that fits your purpose — EduCity, inside a 305-acre international education city, or Forest City, a resort-style beachfront campus. Curriculum, coursebooks and the level system are identical on both.

3

Small Groups & Holistic Education

Group classes are capped at 3–10 students per instructor for a Student-Centered learning environment. The Renaissance Reading Programme further develops reading habits and critical thinking.

Real Stories from Our Students

The environment here was completely different from studying in the Philippines. Being inside a university campus changes your mindset from day one. The 1-to-1 classes improved my speaking incredibly fast — teachers gave such detailed feedback that my confidence skyrocketed. It was amazing how much I changed in just 8 weeks.

Before MEC, my English speaking was so weak that I was afraid to open my mouth. The 1-on-1 format meant I had to speak every single lesson, and my teacher was incredibly patient. After 12 weeks I sat the IELTS and exceeded my target score. The EduCity campus feels truly international.

It was my first time abroad without my parents, but the staff were so kind that my anxiety disappeared quickly. Daily 1-to-1 classes carefully fixed my weak points, and I couldn't believe how much I could speak after just 4 weeks. The Renaissance Reading programme was really fun too!

I came aiming for IELTS 6.5 and finished with 7.0. Writing was my weakest area, but my teacher walked me through essay structure step by step and my score jumped significantly. Monthly mock tests kept my progress on track. Being close to Singapore made the weekends amazing too.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is MEC Academy located?

MEC Academy runs two campuses in Johor Bahru, Malaysia. The EduCity campus is at Level 2, Block A, Kota Ilmu, Persiaran Graduan, EduCity, 79200 Nusajaya, Johor, Malaysia, and the Forest City campus is at Level 3, 8-16, Mahkota Selatan, Jalan Forest City 1, Pulau Satu, 81550 Gelang Patah, Johor, Malaysia. EduCity is Malaysia's purpose-built international education city; Forest City is a beachfront resort city on the water. The curriculum and teaching quality are identical at both.

Is EduCity a safe place to study?

Yes. EduCity is a master-planned education city home to international universities and schools, providing a secure, dedicated and well-managed learning environment.

How much does it cost to study at MEC Academy?

Tuition depends on the programme, the number of weeks and whether you need accommodation. You can see real-time pricing with the fee calculator on the Fees page, and the exact total is confirmed during the application step.

What makes MEC's 1-to-1 teaching method different?

Every course combines small-group and 1-to-1 teaching: 4 group periods plus 1 to 4 one-to-one periods a day depending on the type (Basic → Intensive II). Junior English in term time runs without group periods (one-to-one plus a reading period). Lessons are speaking-centred with personalised feedback, periods are 45 minutes, and every student is placed at the right level using the Oxford Online Placement Test.

When can I start? How often is the intake?

A new intake opens every Monday. Enrolment starts at 2 weeks: adult programmes run 2 to 52 weeks; Junior English and International School Preparation run 2 to 24 weeks.

Which programmes and ages does MEC Academy offer?

MEC offers General English (age 18+), IELTS Exam Preparation (18+), International School Prep (5–16), the Junior English Programme (5–17), the Forest City Family Camp (all ages) and Holiday & After-School courses.

Does MEC Academy provide student accommodation?

Yes. MEC arranges accommodation through partner properties. Adults can choose Carnelian Tower studios or the Forest City student dormitory (check-in from October 2026); families can choose Fraser Place Puteri Harbour, Dao by Dorsett Puteri Cove or Carnelian Tower apartments. Current room types and rates are listed on the Accommodation page and included in the fee calculator.

Can I sit the IELTS exam at EduCity?

Yes. MEC is directly linked to the official IELTS test centre inside EduCity, so you can prepare for and sit the exam in one place. The IELTS course trains all four skills by level, with monthly mock exams in real test conditions, targeting an average gain of 1.0–1.5 bands.

Are there programmes for children and teens?

Yes. International School Prep covers ages 5–16 and the Junior English Programme ages 5–17, and the English Immersion Junior Camp during school holidays combines daily lessons, activities and an accommodation package. Families can also join the Forest City Family Camp together.

How do I apply to MEC Academy?

Apply online through the application form on this site — choose your programme, start date and length, and the team confirms your placement, fees and accommodation. A new intake opens every Monday, and available start dates are shown live on the Fees and Intake pages. Study-abroad agencies can apply through the dedicated partner programme.
